Day 18 - Tours

Today we got to present our Great Collaborator project. It was fun to present to my class and I was proud of myself for being able to answer questions on the spot. Presentations are always a great opportunity to practice public speaking and keep up with those skills. I enjoyed this project. We put lots of work into the research and overall it was a great experience to heighten my research and presentation skills. It is something I will always need to use, especially whilst I'm in college. I took the praises and criticisms and learned from this. There is always room to grow.

Later on we got to have a tour of the med-school. He took us into the anatomy lab. It was fascinating to me. In anatomy this past year, we had sections of cadavers but we never had full bodies. We had cadavers of different joints so we could see the muscles and vessels and we had cadavers of different organs and their respective vessels. I loved getting to work with them because it gave me a more realistic idea the true anatomy. In the anatomy lab during the tour, our tour-guide showed us two full bodies that had been dissected as well as a lung that had been dissected out. The lung was riddled with cancer. It is not at all what I though cancer would look like. It was fascinating to get a different perspective on the things I have been learning about in school. I think that it is important to have a realistic perspective on your curriculum so this tour truly allowed me to see things in a new light. It was fun to be able to identify what I was seeing on a real cadaver.

Before we left for the day, we went to Unity Park for a meditation class. It was very nice and refreshing. Being out in the fresh air was calming enough, but our instructor did an amazing job at teaching us techniques to calm us down and refocus. I quite enjoyed the class and will be using the techniques she taught us in the future. I struggle with going to sleep at night, but she taught us a technique that is wonderful for preparing the body for sleep. I will find this quite useful and I think it is something I can take with me for a very long time.
